terms & conditions

  The following conditions apply to ALL bike hire: 

• Bicycles, helmets and any other hired accessories remain the property of Ballina Byron Bike Hire. 
• Bicycles and accessories must be returned to Ballina Byron Bike Hire on time or additional charges will apply. 
• Bicycles, helmets and other accessories must be returned in the same condition as hired. 
• Bicycles are not to be used for competitive events unless by prior arrangement with Ballina Byron Bike Hire. Riders and bikes not covered by Ballina Byron Bike Hire insurers in the event of accident in competitive events. 
• The hirer must ensure bicycles, helmets and other accessories are securely locked when left unattended. 
• The replacement cost for lost or broken keys is $25. The cost for lost or damaged locks is the current RRP. 
• Lost or stolen bicycles, helmets and other accessories will be charged at current recommended retail prices. 
• Loss or theft of hire bicycles must be reported immediately to local Police and Ballina Byron Bike Hire. 
• Tampering with, resetting or hacking e-bike configuration is forbidden. E-bikes are regulated by law and must not be altered. E-bikes are regulated at 25 km/h. A reset penalty of $30 per bike applies to Lekker X settings. 
• Specialized Turbo bikes are designed to be tamper-proof. Attempting to hack the Specialized Turbo software will create a irrecoverable battery error, requiring replacement of the battery. The hirer is liable for the full replacement cost of the battery. As at September 2020, Turbo Vado & Levo batteries are $1100RRP. 
• Use of clamp-style car carrier racks and trailers can damage bike frames. Damage to alloy frames during transport in clamp-style bike racks, trailers, ute trays, etc. will incur a $300 penalty per bike. Damage to carbon fibre frames will be charged at the full cost of repair - full strip, rebuild, repair and paint, approx. $2000 per bike.  
• A CLEANING FEE OF $35 PER BIKE APPLIES TO BIKES RETURNED DIRTY. 

The hirer agrees that in hiring bicycle and/or other equipment and by signing the hire agreement, that they will abide by all of the terms and conditions of hire outlined here and by all relevant State and local laws and rules. The hirer also acknowledges the fact that bicycle riding can be unpredictable and hazardous and will not hold Ballina Byron Bike Hire in any way liable for any injury or action that may arise as a result of decisions they make while cycling. 

The hirer also authorises Ballina Byron Bike Hire to charge the supplied credit card details for additional hire fees for late returns and for any loss or damage incurred throughout the duration of the bicycle hire period or for security security as the need arises or situations requires. A cleaning fee will be automatically applied for bikes returned dirty. 

Ballina Byron Bike Hire reserves the right to cancel this agreement at any time, should these conditions not be met or there is a reasonable expectation that the conditions will not be met, or that bikes or equipment is being or may be damaged. 

It is a condition of hire, that a copy of the hirer's photographic identification is provided to Ballina Byron Bike Hire to establish the identity of the hirer, or that the hirer allow Ballina Byron Bike Hire to make a copy of said identification. In cases where adequate identification is not provided Ballina Byron Bike Hire may require a security bond in place of or in addition to identification. 

PLEASE NOTE: For insurance purposes we are required to retain bike hire booking and customer identification details for 7 years, which is the statute of limitations for personal injury claims. It is a condition of hire that the hirer agrees to provide this information and to this information being retained for this purpose. All customer information is stored in a secure off-site location.
